Pocky Rocky with Becky (USA)

Pocky & Rocky with Becky (USA) released in 2001 for the Game Boy Advance (GBA), is the third entry in the beloved Pocky & Rocky franchise, published by Natsume and developed by Altron. Building on the classic top-down shoot 'em up gameplay established in the original Super NES entries, this handheld exclusive adds a brand new playable character, Becky, expanding both single-player and co-op gameplay options for on-the-go retro action. Rooted in Japanese yokai (folklore monster) lore, the game follows the young shrine maiden Pocky and her tanuki companion Rocky as they fend off a wave of mischievous and dangerous supernatural creatures that have overrun the countryside. Unlike many early GBA ports of older titles, Pocky & Rocky with Becky was built from the ground up for the handheld, with tight controls that leverage the GBA's button layout, colorful pixel art that pops on the handheld's screen, and a whimsical soundtrack that captures the series' lighthearted, playful tone. Game Guide

If you're new to Pocky & Rocky with Becky or stuck on a tough stage or boss, these tips will help you master this GBA classic. First, start with the right character for your playstyle and skill level: beginners should pick Pocky first, as her balanced ofuda attacks cover a wide area to clear packs of small yokai, making it easy to learn enemy patterns without getting overwhelmed. If you prefer a challenge or higher damage output, go for Rocky, whose melee kick can take out most common enemies in one hit, but requires you to get close to danger, so you’ll need to practice consistent dodging to stay alive. Becky is perfect for players who love kiting enemies from a distance: her boomerang projectiles return after being thrown, hitting enemies twice and clearing out threats off-screen without putting you in danger. Mastering the dodge roll is the single most important skill in the game. The dodge roll makes you temporarily invulnerable, so use it to dodge large boss projectiles and escape tight spots when you're surrounded by swarming enemies. Don't spam your full-screen special attack too early: special magic attacks clear every enemy on the screen, but they use up your entire magic meter, so save them for when you're overwhelmed by a large pack of enemies or to finish off a boss's last bit of health. Collect every power-up you see: red peach orbs restore your health, blue orbs refill your magic, and ofuda power-ups permanently increase the size and damage of your regular attacks, which makes tough late-game boss fights much easier. For boss fights, always wait out attack patterns before striking: most bosses, like the first stage's giant spider, only take damage to their glowing weak point. Wait for their attack to finish, then unload your damage before rolling out of the way of their next strike. If you're playing co-op, split your roles: one player focuses on clearing incoming small enemies while the other focuses on damaging the boss, this makes even the hardest f
